Pastorate Transparency Week 3: PLT

As our pastorate continues to evolve and grow, there have been changes, and with that, many questions. In this Pastorate Transparency series, we will aim to provide information and clarity for these questions over the next several weeks.

What is the pastorate leadership team (PLT)?

The Pastorate Leadership Team (PLT) exists to help the pastor establish clear priorities for the pastorate, carry out the mission, and be attentive to the needs of all staff, volunteers and parishioners. This also includes executing the Set Ablaze Pastorate Plan as requested by the Diocese.

Who is on the Pastorate Leadership Team?

Team members include Fr. Yamato Icochea, Fr. Juan Carlos Villavicencio, Christine Lemmer, Courtney Deinert, John Heemstra, Nicole Fuhrer, Sarah Timmer & Tonya Meaney.
Each member is tasked to care for the health and effectiveness of the entire parish, not simply personal areas of expertise or responsibility.

How is this different from the pastoral council?

The pastoral council is an advisory committee to the pastor and serve as representatives on behalf of the whole congregation. The pastoral council meets quarterly.
The PLT meets weekly to directly oversee specific objectives and initiatives within the pastorate.

What is “Amazing Parish”?

Fr. Yamato and the PLT receive coaching as clients of Amazing Parish (AP).
Amazing Parish has been transformative in helping our parishes develop clear organizational clarity, which has led to focused and fruitful growth. AP has helped form Fr. Cesar and Fr. Yamato as pastors and leaders. Our PLT
attends the annual Summit Conference hosted by AP. The
Diocese of Sioux Falls has also adopted principles utilized by AP
and is encouraging other pastorates to do so as well.

What is our organizational clarity?

Similar to a mission and vision statement, organizational clarity answers four key questions, which aid our clergy, staff and volunteers in making decisions, setting goals, and measuring success:
  • Why do we exist? (Purpose)
  • How do we behave? (Values)
  • What do we do? (Action)
  • How will we succeed? (Strategic Anchors)
